What Is Cross-linked Polyethylene?

Cross-linked polyethylene, or XLPE, is a plastic material that strengthens considerably during the molding process by crosslinking the plastic molecules. Products crafted from XLPE have improved Environmental Stress Crack Resistance (ESCR), a characteristic particularly beneficial in outdoor and industrial applications. Some benefits of using XLPE for your plastic molded products are impact resistance, ductile strength, low cost and sustainability in cold temperatures.

Due to the size and function of certain applications, rotational molding is the optimum process to use with cross-linked polyethylene. When manufacturing large projects or those with complicated shapes or designs, rotational molding is the most productive choice. Some applications manufactured from using this process are tanks, hydraulic reservoirs, blower housings and protective covers.
